Website Finished!

At last! The website is finished and I think it looks better than I was hoping it would. I managed to get some time with Mark earlier on this morning and he explained how to put my superwomen in place and the video. I've spent the last few hours updating the pages and implementing the CSS correctly.

I've been previewing my website in Mozilla Firefox, however when I previewed in Safari the video on the releases_media.html page sticks out the box, however it doesn't in Firefox and I'm unsure why.

The pages of the website I have created are:
The Index Page - Home Page, the first page the user sees.
The Releases Page
The Community Page

These three pages then categorise into different areas, the Community page allows the user to go to several different places including external websites (these links work), the Guide and Video links both work and take the user to other pages. The Guide Intro page which the user gets taken too by going through the Community page then links to three different class guides which I have written for the website.

By doing this I have included four different layers of the website, showing I am competent with website structuring as well as using CSS and positioning.

EG:
Index > Community > Guide Intro > Guide 1/2/3

The Guide pages link back to the Guide Intro by clicking the 'Welcome to the Guide' image at the top of each page, making it easy for the user to switch guides at a glance. Each navigation button works apart from the 'Calendar' button, which if the site went live I would put a Calendar behind which, would help show gaming/website events etc...
Throughout the pages I have scattered 'dead links' to pages which haven't been created yet. However if the site was made properly, I would create these pages and sub-groups. I have included these links to show the marker the scope of the website and its potential, also I hope to show the marker that I have genuinely thought about what other pages could be created and where the links would go.

For the Guides, I have written in detail three guides for three of the Lord of the Rings online characters to provide more substance to the website.

Mark.

I went for my one-to-one session with Mark, so he could advise me on how to put the video into my website and place my Superwomen. However he never turned up, which has put a slow on getting my website up to scratch. I've received an email from him asking me to come in this monday, so we can go through it.

I've now started putting my videos together, I've downloaded the Video Documentary from swtor.com which I am going to put on my website as well as the video which I am making using Final Cut Pro. This video will be a quick look into MMO games and I have used the program 'Fraps' to video ingame footage.

The Website is Now Moving!!

After speaking with Mark in the lecture, my website is now in transition between Photoshop and Dreamweaver! I can't believe I forgot how to to transition it between the two, its such an easy task. Now that, that task is done, I've been getting my head around 'CSS', its easy enough and I've used it partially before. However there are certain things I can't seem to get it too do.

I'm going in for a tutorial for Mark at 1pm today so I will ask him to find out.

Easter Break!

Easter

Ok, so Easter hasn't been the most productive time for University Work for me. The 12th April which Mark set aside for us to go in and talk to him was also the day I was due to pick my new car up etc... therefore was unable to get into University. Which was a shame, considering I could have used the help. I've pretty much got all my pages done on Photoshop as at home I don't have access to Dreamweaver, once we get back to University, I'm hoping Mark will be kind enough to remind me how to get the pages across to Dreamweaver.

Thats all for now folks'

Background.

For the inside of the 800 pixel range of my website, I've used this tutorial:

to  create the background. Though mine is pink.

Computer Dead.

Well I started to layout the template of my website on Photoshop at home, however once I had, I realised I needed to properly complete my header so the template could be set out properly. However my computer has now died and will not even start up. Meaning the images I wanted to use for my project are in-accessable as I didn't want to use stock images from the game websites. I actually wanted to go into the games and get screenshots myself to use.

I have ordered a new computer and hopefully I'll be able to get that sorted out in time.

Template Images. Fail.

So once I'd done my "drawings" and sketches on what I wanted from the template images, I needed to actually get the pictures. So travelling around I managed to collate all the images of consoles I needed and then uploaded them to my mac to start editing them. Once I got them on the mac, the pictures turned out terrible. They were un-usable, blurred and very grainy. I was particularly unhappy after all the work I had put in that the end product wasn't great. I decided to scrap the pictures and I'll have to find some stock images of the products I needed for the template, as It is obvious that taking the pictures wasn't working for me. Hopefully the in-game images which I take will be usable, I don't forsee a problem with those.

Website Design

Ok, so It may be overly ambitious, but throughout the lecture today I've been putting my non-existant drawing skills to the test my planning out what I think I could do with my basic page layout. I'm going to be using pictures of gaming consoles/smart phones to make up most of the website template. I think it might be a little bit overcrowded but it'll be easier to scale down if I start big and work backwards. About to set off for my parents with my camera to take some pictures and get started!

Header for the Website!

I think I've had a relatively good idea for the header of my website 'Girl Gamers'. All I need to do now is put pencil to paper and put my very, very limited drawing skills to use and try and come up with a working prototype. Mostly for the images, I'll be using images from actual PC games. I'll need to take those too!

The Website!

Spoken with Mark!

After my last minute idea for a website with babies, which to be honest was particularly last minute desperate idea. After the first two lectures I thought the website had to be something out of my comfort zone in what I would normally create, that isn't entirely true seemingly and now I'll be creating a website one Gaming, not sure what aspect of gaming, but the website is going to be aimed at Women. Which if we think about it is out of my comfort zone if we consider the audience, I look forward to some of the research I'll need to do for this website. Now I've updated all of you, I must run and let Mark teach us about
tags in CSS.

I'm Back! New Media Production here I come!

I'm Back.

Indeed, I am. Year two of University now and we're in the second term and its now 2010! I think that's you all updated to where and the time of these blogs, now to the why! I've just started this course 'New Media Production' with lecturer Mark Smith. Basically for 'New Media Production' we've got to create a Website on a certain subject or company, I submitted my brief to Mark via email on Monday, I was really struggling for any ideas until about 11pm on Monday night when I was looking at Rose sleeping when I thought I'd see if Mark was applicable with the idea that I created a website on babies! Something I still don't know a great deal about even though I have a one month old, So I suppose creating this website might even help me in the long run with Missy Rose.

Anyway back to business. Just got to wait to see if Mark likes the idea or not. If not I suppose its back to the drawing board. I'll update this once I've spoken with Mark!

The Weekend!

Ok, So I'm back home from a hard days grafting.. at tesco ;P Dont laugh its a relativley difficult job if done correctly! :D Anyway, I'm quite happy with the progress I've made with my projects this weekend. I've sorted out my speach for Tuesday Evenings lecture and I'll be going into Uni early morning again tomorrow to hopefully do some last minute touch-ups on the radio program, everyone get ready to tune into LAJ.fm.. Its gonna be amazing :D

I found out today something nobody wants to hear just before christmas... I need at least two new tyres for my car and it needs to be done before anymore major driving can be done. So before I can hit Uni tomorrow I'll be running around garages spending what money I have left on new tyres :( I hate cars!! No. I hate my car, I so need a new one. It's proper annoying me the amount of stuff that is wrong with my car - Please god dont let any prospective buyers of my car read this blog!

Anywho, I best get some sleeps before tomorrow or I'm gonna be absaloutley nackered. Although through all this chaos, I heard that one of my best mates is back in town! Hopefully I'll manage to see him sometime this week :)

Deadlines, Deadlines :/

Ok, so this if my first 'semester'/'term' almost finished, and as what I would assume is usual in university life, I've got pretty much every deadline under the sun next, week and unfortunetly not allot of work to show for it at the moment. Dont get me wrong, I should be able to get it all done by the deadlines. BUT, I am definetly pushing my luck a little. I've been working with Lauren and Alicia on our Radio Production which needs to be presented on Monday evening, Some of the editing still needs to be done and my version of Audacity (Audio Editor) keeps crashing when I try to Amplify some of the sound.. which put us in precarious waters.

I've got another group presentation on the Tuesday evening, our subject is on the history of BBC television, a particulary riviting subject which I'm sure will keep the lecture awake for our 20minutes :) I still need to get my notes typed up for this. I wont say I'm not worried about that particular deadline. I think its just; as with the radio production, I dont want to let anybody down - and unfortunetly in the past I'm sure I have a record of doing just that! Wednesday next week, I'm positive will be spent on last minute projects which need to be in on the Thursday/Friday of next week.

To top it all off, its christmas. All my uni friends wanna go out of farewells over christmas and all my 'school' friends which are coming back from Universitys around the country wanna go out as a 'welcome back' or 'reunion' parties. With all that and the added pressure of getting all my work in on time, will I actually have time for myself?

Start of University Life!

Since this is my first EVER blog, you guys will have to bare with me for a couple of 'blog' attempts. The main reason that I'm doing this is for my Introduction of Professional Writing module which I started last week.

My first week at the University of Derby has been eventful but maybe not as strange as I first thought it would be. It could because I'm still living at home so allot of my personal life hasnt changed much, its just a longer drive to where I'm getting my education! Mind you I suppose that all I've had is introductions really so far has helped a fair bit on my time keeping etc...

I finally got my UDO Login yesterday after finishing Media History module, it was easier than I expected it too be. All I needed to do was to twaltz into the Library and ask for my password to be set up. and Ka-Ching - I can log into UDO. Anyway I cant think of much else for you fellow bloggers to learn about my week so far. I'll update this at the next interesting point this week!
